The HDFC Bank board will take a decision on issue of bonus shares on Saturday, July 19. If declared, it will be the 148th stock on BSE to announce bonus shares in 2025, till date.

Bonus shares this month
In July, 16 stocks have turned ex-date for bonus issues. They included Motherson Sumi Wiring India Ltd (1:2), Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd (1:2), Ashok Leyland Ltd (1:1), Roto Pumps Ltd (2:1), Sharda Motor Industries Ltd (1:1) and Container Corporation Of India Ltd (1:4), data compiled from corporate database AceEquity suggests. Two stocks Jonjua Overseas Ltd and Focus Business Solution Ltd have July 28 and July 21 as record dates.

Bonus shares in 2025 so far
The Calendar has witnessed 147 firms declaring bonus issues till date. This is against a strong 612 stocks went ex-dividend during 2024, 483 stocks during 2023 and 402 such stocks during 2022.

Bajaj Finance Ltd went ex-bonuses 4:1 in June, V-Mart Retail 3:1 in June, BSE Ltd 2:1 in May, and Navkar Urbanstructure Ltd 3:2 in April; Anand Rathi Wealth Ltd and Greenlam Industries Ltd went ex-bonuses in March.

Indraprastha Gas Ltd, KPI Green Energy Ltd, Orient Cables (India) Ltd and Surya Roshni Ltd also became ex-bonus this year. HDFC Bank would declare its first bonus in the case of HDFC Bank. The private sector lender would also be mulling a special interim dividend, besides its quarterly results.

Systematix Research noted the announcement of special interim dividend could be due to one-time gain from HDB Financial Services’ IPO. “We have a BUY rating on the stock currently, with a target price of Rs 2,300,” it stated.

In dividend, HDFC Bank declared a dividend of Rs 22 per share in FY25 with a dividend yield of 1.2 per cent. The private sector lender declared dividends of 19.50 per cent in FY24, 19 per cent in FY23, and 15.50 per cent in FY22.

For the quarter, Axis Securities has forecast HDFC Bank to post 5.8 per cent YoY increase in net profit at Rs 17,120 crore on 6.2 per cent increase in NII at Rs 31,686 crore. Non-Interest Income is forecast at Rs 12,178 crore, up 14.2 per cent. Provision is forecast at Rs 3,327 crore, up 4.2 per cent QoQ and 27.9 per cent YoY.

The commentary by management on deposit accretion and consequential credit growth, and margin path will be watched closely, the local brokerage stated.
